Virgin del Carmen Celebrations July 2008
Noticed a poster in Arguineguin the other day saying the street parties for the Virgin del Carmen will be:
Arguineguin-11th July - 19th July
Mogan - 20th July -29th July
im not sure if I got the dates totally correct and will have to check again, but thats all I could remember off the top of my head.
Virgin del Carmen is the protector of the sea and many small fishing villages and towns celebrate this. There will be fiestas and celebrations starting in Arguineguin and then moving onto Mogan, each ending with my favourite part, "Bajada de la rama" which is basically "Take down the leaf" but is when the locals take to the street and sing "Agua Aguita la gente esta sequita" Water, water the people are dry. Which then turns into the biggest water fight you have ever seen, in which people are hosed down and make a procession through the streets.
If you take part in it this year please upload pictures or let us know how your fiesta was
