Exclamation Street Party: Virgin del Carmen Celebrations Arguineguin July 2009

I can't believe it's almost that time of year again when everyone goes crazy and has water fights in the street

Virgin del Carmen celebrations are upon us once again, and will take place in Arguineguin from the 10th July 2009 -19th July 2009. Check the latest post for timetables of activities.

Here's a little bit of information about this celebration:

Virgin del Carmen is the protector of the sea and many small fishing villages and towns celebrate this. There will be fiestas and celebrations starting in Arguineguin and then moving onto Mogan, each ending with my favourite part, "Bajada de la rama" which is basically "Take down the leaf" but is when the locals take to the street and sing "Agua Aguita la gente esta sequita" Water, water the people are dry. Which then turns into the biggest water fight you have ever seen, in which people are hosed down and make a procession through the streets.
If you take part in it this year please upload pictures or let us know how your fiesta was

I actually have some photographs of Virgin del Carmen from last year somewhere, I will have to find them and add them to the gallery. There is a video somewhere too.

Hi Vikki

Sounds like fun, so does the water fight take place in Mogan on the 12th?

If so will need to nip down for a laugh and take some pictures.

Stuart

hi Stuart not sure about Mogan but you should come down to Arguineguin we will have one here. I will make another thread just about Mogan once I find out all the timetables.

Just translating the pdf file from above so should have a better idea of the goings on in Arguineguin very soon.

p.s anyone can join in with the water fight, it's lots of fun.

Hi not stupid at all, a good question. It is proably easier to get to Arguineguin than it is to get to Mogan from Puerto Rico.

It's very roughly 6€ in a taxi or you can catch the bus from the main station in Puerto Rico for a couple of euros. Takes about 10 minutes from bottom of Puerto Rico. Oh and you can also catch a boat that takes you right into Arguineguin harbour.
