Primark - C.C Las Arenas, Gran Canaria - Opening 22nd September 2010

Primark is well known for great clothes and accessories at great prices but until we get one in Canary Islands what to do?

Well what I did last January is got some mega cheap flights left Las Palmas at silly oclock in the morning and arrived in Madrid for breakfast.

Not many people know that there are a few Primark shops in Spain and just as easy to get there and back in a day. I hear of many expats going especially to UK to buy stuff but when you weigh up the costs and inconvenience you may aswell go to Madrid.

Nearest to Madrid airport
Plenilunio Centre

Xanadu Centre

There is one in Cadiz incase you are in the south and one near Murcia

Yeah if you can get the flights cheap enough you can have a proper spree in there, and even better if you have a residencia to get discounted flights! We just left our empty cases in the airport lockers and then shopped til we dropped and went back to the cases and filled them up with stuff and flew back. It was a bit tiring but a lot cheaper than going to the UK

Primark now have 12 stores in mainland Spain, I think they should send one this way now. Although my guess is if they Canaries get one they will put it in Tenerife....

Well not sure if it means they will start selling their products online anytime soon but Primark have totally revamped their website and it looks so much better.

You can easily find where they have new stores opening, I check it religiously just incase there is one appearing here, none as yet by the way.

So I noticed this handy page they have which gives you size guides for clothing as I know when I first arrived here on the island I had no idea what size I was in the spanish sizes. I think some may find this very helpful.

I emailed Primark (again) yesterday asking if they have any plans to open a Primark here in Gran Canaria.

The reply I received in November 2007:

We have a store opening in Jerez tomorrow and Xanadu next week. I am sorry but we don't have any plans to open a store in the Canaries

The reply I received yesterday July 2009:

Your email has been sent to our Deputy Managing Director who is responsible for sourcing new sites. I am sure that we can now encourage him to put Gran Canaria on his list!

I think the second reply is very positive and could actually turn into something. I am interested to see how many other people would like a Primark shop in Gran Canaria, so if you are on facebook please become a fan.

Hurray! It's officially been confirmed, Primark is opening soon in the ground floor of C.C Las Arenas in Las Palmas!!! Yes! A Primark in Gran Canaria at long last! I really cannot contain my excitement!

I will be taking a trip up maybe Tuesday to see if I can see anything

Hi sajnanik and welcome to the forum!!

I went up to Las Arenas last night, not expecting to see anything really. That was until I saw underneath Toys R Us, there were Las Arenas signs up like they do when a new store is opening and a silver shutter down in the doorway with a simple A4 piece of paper saying those magic words "Primark".

There is a little café by the escalators and people must have thought I was a right loon taking pics of a shop that hasn't even opened.

Judging by the second photo we may still have to wait a while as it is pretty much a shell. Couldn't get much more into the photo without losing my iPhone through the shutters lol. I'm also surprised that Primark has come to the islands but with it's slashed prices there will be a lot of happy people, including myself.
