Question Advice about buying baby stuff, nappies, food, milk in Gran Canaria

Hi, My Husband and I are going to Puerto Rico in a fortnights time and are travelling with our 14month old baby for the first time, was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any supermarkets in P.rico that sell nappies, food and other baby essentials by brands that we would get in the UK ie pampers, cow and gate etc also is it quite easy to buy cartons of cows milk from local shops ? stupid questions no doubt but we just want to double check so we know wether to stuff or cases full of pampers or not !!

Appreciate any help.

When I lived over there I stopped buying the usual huggies etc and just bought the Spanish makes if I had to buy in Puerto Rico. I would usually buy them in the chemist though, not the supermarkets as theirs tended to be better. What we all tried to do was to travel to the shopping centre in Vecindario to get nappies, baby food etc at a reasonable price in the big Carrefour supermarket every couple of weeks. You will need a car though if you are going to do that. If you have space, then take your nappies if you want a certain brand.

As for milk, there is a very good milk that I used to give my kids there rather than the fresh cows milk which they do not do in the UK. I can't remember what it is called but it has a picture of a heart on it and has added vitamins (its a UHT milk though) and is available in all the supermarkets. I didn't like the taste but my kids did and at that age it might be better.

As for baby food, at 14 months, could your child not eat normal food cut up small? (obviously I don't know you or you child so don't think I'm being judgemental! But my kids were all on normal food at that age and it is certainly easier to cut up some of your own dinner for them)

Many Spanish baby products are excellent. We've taken our grandchildren over on many occassions. Most of the products available over here you can get there. Main nappies are a brand called "DODOT" as good as pampers if just a bit dearer, no need to pack a casefull you'll get it all over there. Try the "Hiperdino" Spanish supermarket located at the rear of the main commercial centre up past the taxi rank for the cheapest prices.

You may not see the same brands names in GC but the products are the same. Spanish have babies too!
Nappies - the better make is Dodot. Chemists sell them and some of the supermarkets. If you have a car then go to one of the bigger supermarkets out of the tourist area to get a better price. Or bring enough of you ones, just for the nights and buy cheaper ones for the day times when an accident doesnt matter so much
If you have a very small baby, then a change in milk can be upsetting for them - and you - so bring your own. But if your baby is older or more adaptable then you can buy powdered formula here too - again in the chemists is better.
Most of all, enjoy your holiday and remember everyones routines will be out of sorts. Go with the flow
